A CPR & Choking Course That Can Save a Child's Life
Choking and breathing emergencies are some of the leading causes of death in Canadian children. Waiting for a first responder may be too late.
First Aid for choking emergencies & CPR are life-saving interventions that everyone with a little one in their life should know.
What Is CPR and When Should I Use It?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that can help save a person's life if they stop breathing or their heart stops. When a person's heart stops beating, they are in cardiac arrest.

During cardiac arrest, the heart cannot pump blood to the rest of the body, including the brain and lungs. Death can happen in minutes without treatment.

CPR uses chest compressions to mimic how the heart pumps. These compressions help keep blood flowing throughout the body.
FACT
Currently, about 9 in 10 people who have a cardiac arrest outside the hospital don't make it, but CPR can help improve these odds. If CPR is performed within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, it can double or even triple a person's chance of survival.
According to 2017 data, nearly 45 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims survived when bystander CPR was administered.

The majority of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) occurs in public settings (18.8 percent), mostly homes/residences (69.5%) and nursing homes (11.7%). So, statically speaking, the need to perform CPR on a child is most likely to happen at home. Parents need to be trained and prepared to intervene!

With these statistics, we saw a need to offer First Aid & CPR training as a public service to parents and caregivers in a fun, affordable, and easy-to-learn class led by our Certified Red Cross Instructors. We're truly honoured and excited to teach these life-saving skills to parents and caregivers. As parents ourselves, we know how important and scary it is to be in a position to feel helpless when your little one is in danger, so this is a way for us to give you the necessary skills and comfort in knowing, there is something you CAN do to better yourself and your child's life, should the unthinkable happen.
The primary purpose of CPR is to restore the partial flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart. The objective is to delay tissue death and to extend the brief window of opportunity for a successful resuscitation without permanent brain damage.

The great news is, we've made it fun, affordable and easy to learn! If you're living in the Edmonton & Calgary area, we would love to teach you!

Little Lungs First Aid is a locally owned and operated small business. Our mission is to create safer communities by empowering our course participants with science-based First Aid skills and knowledge.
Little Lungs First Aid was founded by long-term friends Rachel Casswell and Paige Maenhout, who were on a hunt for meaningful and flexible work as new mothers in 2017.

With limited options for mothers looking for a balance of a flexible schedule and impactful work, a demand for more accessible First Aid training, and Paige's mother's background as a Red Cross instructor, the two friends were lead to incorporate Little Lungs First Aid in 2017.

Since our launch, we’ve expanded our training facilities to North Edmonton, South Edmonton, West Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Okotoks, North Calgary, and South Calgary with a reach all over Alberta thanks to online and on-site training.
